Response to AIA Report on Integrated Practice, 2. University and Industry Research in Support of BIM

Chuck Eastman describes how 3D modeling has also changed the production of constructing buildings and I agree with his statement. Some countries have been able to drastically shorten their construction time due to the layouts being correct for the subcontractors, and not having the drawings be finalized on-site. This reminded of an article about a 15 storey Hotel being completely built in China with a span of only 6 days. The Ark Hotel is also a level 9 earthquake resistant, sound proof, and with thermal resistances. (Ark Hotel)

Another point, I found interesting about BIM was how even though it has greatly changed the production of 3D modeling architecturally, the rate of how the software is updated to support different architectural design styles is very slow. I feel like other professions that uses design programs have constant and significant upgrades, whereas architectural programs slowly get these great changes to it. Also how some architects have recently begun to use other programs designed for other modeling purposes. For example, how we just recently use Rhino and Maya, Rhino was first thought to be used to design jewelry. Maya was used as a tool to create video games, animated films, TV series, and visual effects.
