Response to "Change or Perish"

Thom Mayne's remarks on BIM are strongly opinionated. He states that in order for every practicing architect should know how to adapt to the growing technology in architecture. Or else "you will absolutely not practice architecture." I agree with his statement about how everyone should adapt or learn to adapt to the growing architectural world. That the newer tools available to us help us understand and conceptualize spaces, materials, connections, and etc better. However, I disagree with his comment on how if you don't change to the growths, then you absolutely cannot practice architecture. I believe that it is possible to not use the technology, it is just that the progress would be slower.

I also do not believe that "once you get used to working three-dimensionally, there's no going back." I think that reading and drawing up plans and sections will always be a skill set a person has. I think it is just difficult for some, because they have grown accustom to the easier and faster shortcuts one is able to do on a computer.
